Fish n’ Chips is perhaps the meal most associated with the isle of Great Brittan. Popularized in the mid-1800s, fried fish with fried potatoes made a quick, hot, inexpensive meal. Considered the first ‘fast food’, factory and mill workers took advantage of easily obtaining a nutritious dinner to go. Each day, Odin Hicks would meet the fishermen at the docks, bringing back the early morning catch. On this winter day, displays of fresh fish are on ice in front of the market, while coal for the large metal smokers is stored behind the building.
